Walter T. Daniels
Dr. Walter Thomas Daniels was the first African American person to receive a Ph.D. in Engineering at Iowa State College.
Education
Dr. Walter Thomas Daniels received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Arizona University in 1929. He went on to receive a M.S. in Civil Engineering fro Iowa State College in 1932. He was the first African American person to receive a Ph.D. in Engineering at Iowa State College in 1942. His concentration was Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and Structural Engineering. Dr. Daniels' dissertation was titled, "Deflection of rigid frames stressed beyond the yield point".
HBCU Contribution
Dr. Daniels became an instructor of Mechanic Arts at Prairie View State College. He then became a professor of Physics at Negro Agricultural & Technical College in Greensboro in 1934.
