Grace Mae Sullivan was an African American student at Iowa State College.

Life and Education

Grace M. Sullivan was born in Louisville, Kentucky. She received her B.S. from Hampton University in 1930. She then went on to receive her M.S. in Home Economics Education from Iowa State College in 1932. Her Master's thesis was titled, "Home economics in negro secondary schools of Kentucky".

HBCU Contribution

Sullivan was announced as an Instructor of Home Economics at Kentucky State Industrial College for Colored Persons in the Homecoming Issue of the Kentucky Thoroughbred on November 23, 1929 and in the "Louisville Leader" on August 16, 1930.

In the catalogue for Kentucky State Industrial College for Colored Persons (1935-1936), she was listed as the Head of the Home Economics Department. More titles were added to her position in the 1936-1937 catalogue where she is listed as Professor, Head and Teacher-Trainer for the Department of Home Economics. She was also listed as being active on the Executive Council, the Administrative Council, and the Committee on Curriculum Reorganization that year.
